WHAT

Mariloca.com has been around quite some time, in many different forms. Before it was a dot com, it was a dot net. And before that, I was hosted by some generous “internet” friends. Those were the days!

The name was chosen by a dear friend of mine who purchased the inital site for me many years ago. Its a combination of my name (Marilla) and the feminine form of the Spanish word for crazy (‘loca’). I thought it was pretty clever and catchy and it sorta stuck. So thats how ‘mariloca’ was born.

But for a long time its been an art site, or an “online portfolio” if you will. But I felt it was getting stagnant and boring, and just old… and I decided maybe taking it in a different direction, i.e. a blog, would be a cool idea. So I kept the online portfolio- you can find that at mariloca.com/imagery. I have a smattering of some of my artwork over there. Again, its just a sampling. I have much more that I’m either too lazy to photograph/scan or upload. And every so often here on the blog I’ll be posting about other artists I admire and things like that. Visit the main page for other info and websites.

But this isn’t just going to be an art blog. Actually, you can’t even stereotype it in any way at all, because I’ll be talking about fashion as well, and other things like pop-culture, food (cross-posted from my other blog most likely), crafting or knitting, etc. And perhaps some music reviews or music recommendations as well. Who knows!? Its an experiment in self-expression I guess. It won’t be about my life- it will be about things that make life enjoyable.

Why is it called ‘mondieu‘? Well, ‘mon dieu’ is a French term that means ‘oh God.’ A lot of my posts on this blog are either thought provoking, poking fun at a celebrity, or showing you something new in the art or craft world. So when you see something new, or beautiful, or interesting… or shocking… whats the first thing you say? Oh god. Exactly.

Each blog post will have a title thats a lyric from a song. Gimmicky? Maybe. But if you guess the song, you win a prize. And that prize is… the knowledge of knowing that you’re smarter and know more random lyrics than someone else.
